The Pittsburgh Pirates got their 2017 home season off to a good start, sweeping the Braves and lighting up the North Shore with the crack of the bat.

We saved our weekly Social Media Round Up for today, to be sure to capture every moment of the home opener series (and because I was on assignment in Pittsburgh all weekend).

Tuneage

The Home Opener at PNC Park means we get a chance to hear Pirates Players’ walk-up songs for the first time. Here’s what the boys have on their playlists right now…Some quick analysis shows that Andrew McCutchen has Adele back in his rotation, Josh Harrison continues showing love to his brother, Phil Gosselin and Chad Kuhl are country fans and John Jaso and Wade LeBlanc are fans of classic rock. Whatever keeps those bats hot, go for it!

First Opening Day Reflections

Before our guys could come home and really get things started, they had to start the season on the road – at historic Fenway Park. For some of the guys, the pagentry on this scale was a first time experience. And of course, Fenway is like the Vatican for baseball players, so they took full-advantage of their location.

All signs are pointing towards #OpeningDay Views from inside the Fenway Park scoreboard #39

(Translation: Thanks God. It started here, one more year, full of blessings and health to achieve every goal during this season.)

Make no mistakes about it though, Fenway is Fenway no matter how long you’ve played the game.

 That Home Cooking!

Ivan Nova got the nod as the Home Opener starter – his first opportunity.

Francisco Cervelli made the most of his return to PNC Park, knocking out his first homer of the season (a tie for his total number of homers for all of 2016).

Nothing like home…

When the Moon Hits Your Eye…

In addition to being the first night game of the season, Saturday night was also Francisco Cervelli bobblehead night. And these bobbleheads were something special alright…

Luckily, they weren’t giving out prizes for staying on key…

A Marte Partay

The Pirates wasted no time in bringing the drama back to PNC. Each of of their three games against the Braves was close, but Sunday’s, well, any game in which the team NEVER has the lead but still manages to win it walk-off style in the 10th? The crowd definitely got their money’s worth!

(Translation: This sport is more than fun, that’s why I enjoy it to the fullest.)

If you missed Starling Marte’s magic – watch it here:

And it wasn’t just a Partay because Starling Marte was involved – this walk-off had historic implications, too:

Marte celebrated all weekend long, receiving his second Gold Glove trophy before the start of Friday’s game:

A Final Thought

Sunday was the first #FamaleeForever game day, in which the Pirates wear their 1979 Throwback unis.

So for our final thought for the week, let’s get some inspiration from one of those Forever Famalee members…

That’s all this week for the Pittsburgh Pirates Social Media Round-up, extra late, edition. The Pirates take on the Reds today at 7:05 p.m. at PNC Park. Have a great week and #LetsGoBucs
