Pirates Breakdown is proud to announce its newest sponsor, Shades on Point

When we started Pirates Breakdown, we wanted to put the reader first. This means no intrusive advertising within posts. It means no obvious allegiances and no frills – just quality Pittsburgh Pirates analysis.

That doesn’t stop our mission to find partners who can help us continue to do just that. But they can’t just be any partner, they have to fit the ethos of what we try to do on a daily basis.

We’ve found another one of those kindred spirits in Shades on Point.

In all honesty, Shades on Point is probably too cool for us. But don’t tell them that.

SOP is a custom sunglasses company that breathes Pittsburgh into each and every one of their products. From their website:

According to FDA estimates, Americans bought more than 300 million pairs of sunglasses in 2014 – over 90% of which are made of petroleum-based plastics. This equates to nearly 80 tons of plastic, the vast majority of which will ultimately end up in landfills. By looking to eco-friendly materials – like wood – for our sunglasses, we aim to reduce the amount of plastic waste generated by the eyewear industry each year.

The area where the Three Rivers meet in Pittsburgh is lovingly referred to as The Point.  Our initial foray into producing wooden sunglasses includes three models at launch – The Allegheny, The Mon, and The Ohio.  Our logo features The Point because we like to always keep our Shades on Point!

These are very high quality, handmade, wooden sunglasses that we have painstakingly designed.  Every detail matters to us including the wood choices, microfiber cleaning bag, bamboo wooden carrying case, product box, shipping box, and surprise bonus items!

Shades on Point was drawn to our Takeaways and Throwaways features in particular, and that is where you’ll see their branding. Our TNTs have quickly become one of our most trafficked pieces, and our unique game recap format aims to shake you out of the normal doldrums of a recap found elsewhere. You watched the game. You know what happened. We aim to review the game by providing the quintessential nuggets you need to know about. We publish within 30 mintues of each game end, and when paired with our FREE mobile apps, you’ll get them as soon as they are live.

When we asked SOP why they wanted to sponsor the TNTs, they had this to say:

“As a company born in Pittsburgh, we’re excited to connect with the die-hard readers of Pirates Breakdown who love our city as much as we do.”

Brian 'Muz' Musolin, Founder & CEO of Shades on Point

A classy quote from a classy gentleman who created a classy product. Go and check out their various sunglasses. I recommend waiting for The Alleghenies to get back in stock!

A big welcome to the PBD family goes out to Shades on Point!
