The Pittsburgh Pirates have reunited with IF/OF SeanRodriguez following a trade with the Atlanta Braves.

According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, the Pittsburgh Pirates have traded an unnamed prospect to the Braves for IF/OF Sean Rodriguez.

Rodriguez played for the Pirates from 2015-2016 before signing a two-year deal with the Braves this past offseason. Following the signing of his deal, he and his family were in a major car accident. Rodriguez missed a bulk of this season and only appeared in 15 games for the Braves. In only 47 at-bats, he hit .162/.326/.351/.677 with two home runs and three RBIs.

This move likely improves both the Pirates’ bench and their overall team defense. Rodriguez is a true utility man and can play various positions at an average to above average level. He is also signed through next season, so this move could not only help with the current Pirates team but could give them a stronger bench in 2018 as well.

Sources they that in order to acquire Rodriguez, the Pirates went over 1B/OF prospect Connor Joe. Joe was the 39th pick in the 2014 MLB Draft. He slashed .257/.352/.361/.713 in three Minor League seasons.

Steve Kubitz was born and raised in the Stanton Heights neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. He is a long time and annoyingly positive baseball fan. He bought into the Pirates’ 5-year-plan before it was cool. He is best known for staying calm about losing streaks on twitter and trying his best to make sure other fans don’t overreact to when the Pirates lose a tough ballgame to a division rival. The only thing he isn’t positive about is the wave during close ballgames.
