Pirates Breakdown is going through some exciting changes. Here’s what’s up
Hi everyone this is Jason Rollison, founder and editor in chief at Pirates Breakdown. I’m here today to tell you about some changes here at PBD!
When we first started PBD on December 7, 2015 (coincidentally, my birthday) we dedicated ourselves to pushing the conversation around the Pittsburgh Pirates. By and large, we’ve done that. IN just over two years we have established ourselves as a go-to destination for Pirates fans to read intelligent analysis surrounding their favorite team. Along the way, we’ve developed some unique voices, created robust audio content, developed and published our own mobile app and grown our reader base to 3+ million unique pageviews per year. We also published our first book – PIRATESGUIDE 2018 – which was a thrilling experience!
We have been incredibly thrilled with how things have gone, and we are excited to announce the next phase.
PBD will be joining The Sports Daily network of sites, which include a popular Penguins site called The Pensblog. Maybe you’ve heard of it? TSD is undergoing a rebranding of its own and will soon be a headline destination for smart independent sports media. I’m not at liberty to discuss exactly what that means, but it’s coming soon and I guarantee you’re going to love it.
What does this mean for you? Not a whole heck of a lot. The site’s design will change. Our twitter handle will be changing too — please follow us @piratebreakdown — but that’s about it.
We will be making some changes at the top though.
After close to 3 years creating, developing and running this site, I have decided to have some new blood run the show. Matt Shetler and Nathan Hursh are your new driving forces behind PBD, and both will do an excellent job. Matt and Nathan are total pros, having worked in the newspaper and online media industries. Both have been with PBD for awhile and both have what it takes to continue to drive our growth forward.
I’ll still be around! I’ll still be writing for PBD and helping with overall site direction but the day to day is going to be run by Matt and Nathan. Our current staff is excited to get going on the 2018 season, and we think we can help Pittsburgh Pirates fans through what is sure to be an interesting season.
So, that’s it! Thank you all for your readership throughout the years!
