Pittsburgh Pirates Social Media Round-up: Snow, Names and POTW

The Pittsburgh Pirates are on a roll, topping the NL Central with a 9-4 record and having a lot of fun at the same time.

Shiver in my bones just thinking about the weather…

Well, it appears that baseball weather may actually be happening in North America. But last week was a different story. And poor Steven Brault was caught in a snowstorm grossly unprepared:

Perhaps George Kontos, who got more time to chill at home because of the “snowout” at Wrigley, could have loaned Brault a coat…

❄️ Beautiful day for baseball ❄️

Before the game was called, the guys spent some time on the field, enjoying (?) the snow. And for the second time in as many weeks, Trevor Williams got to Insta snow and Christmas carols in April. Although this week, Williams is doing the singing himself.

The snowout also afforded him and some of the Pirates the chance to see the renowned Second City Comedy troupe  in Chicago.

The Cat’s Outta the Bag

The Pirates made a few changes to their bullpen this week, and followers of pitcher Kyle Crick’s Instagram got an early heads up. He posted this before the official announcement came from the team:

Complete Game

Jameson Taillon scored a baseball first last week when he pitched the first complete game of his professional career. Ever humble, Jamo was quick to deflect the attention back onto the fans and his teammates, of course.

The feat, along with a stellar start to the season, captured him Player of the Week honors as well.

What’s in a Name?

In a story that sounds a bit Shakespearean – closer Felipe Rivero changed his last name to Vazquez last week. While the reasoning is still a little unclear, it seems he changed his last name to that of his sister – who lives with him during the offseason and also helped negotiate his contract extension with the team. The peculiarity of it all – as well as the suddenness, got tongues in Pittsburgh wagging. Vazquez didn’t mince words with his response.

Still, he recognized that the change might cause fans who purchased his jersey or other personalized gear consternation:

On Deck

The Pittsburgh Pirates take on the Miami Marlins today at 7:10 pm from Marlins Park. The team dropped one last night to the fish and are looking to play a sharp game tonight to get their winning momentum back. Have a great Saturday and #LetsGoBucs

And Finally…

Sean Rodriguez is a really nice guy. And a good sport.
