Da Bears Beatdown
The Chicago Bears entered the season in hopes of defending their NFC North title, and advancing further in the playoffs than last year, but the team’s 2019 campaign has been filled with nothing but disappointment.
Chicago entered Sunday’s game against New York sporting a lackluster 4-6 record, and it’s’ fair to say fans at Soldier Field were hoping the team would be taking playoffs this time of year, rather than if quarterback Mitchell Trubisky is the long-term answer.
All of these things have taken a toll on fans, and is probably why Bears supporters were so frustrated that they began just fighting each other, as captured by bovada mobile, in the stands at Soldier Field on Sunday.
Yeesh.
Yikes Yannick
Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue was none too pleased with the Titans during Sunday’s game, and he made sure to let them know about it.
It’s unclear exactly what or with whom Ngakoue was upset with, but whatever the reason, someone on the Titans sideline isn’t going to be added to his friends list on social media networks.
Ngakoue turned right toward the Titans sideline at the end of one particular play, and maybe he didn’t like the words he was hearing, so he casually flipped them off, for the entire world to see.
OK then.
Cry, Cry Cowboys
The Cowboys still sit atop the NFC East standings, but the team clearly isn’t playing its best football yet, and it does appear that not everyone is on the same page.
There’s been some interesting body language by players and coaches during games, and Sunday’s showdown with the Patriots in Foxboro produced more of the same.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was disappointed with the offense after a drive ended without points in the first quarter, but head coach Jason Garrett tried to lift his spirits with a high-five. Prescott, however, just ran right by his head coach — leaving the poor guy hanging.
It’s actually not the first time we’ve seen this during a Cowboys game, either. A number of Cowboys players snubbed Garrett on the sideline during the team’s loss to the Jets in Week 6 (which you can watch here).
JuJu and James
The Steelers have been looking for a wide receiver to develop opposite No. 1 receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, and James Washington is making his case to be exactly that going forward.
It’s been a rebuilding year for the team’s receiving corps, with veteran superstar Antonio Brown having been traded away, and a number of young players being forced to step up. The Steelers did sign Donte Moncrief in free agency, but the team released him due to issues with drops.
Washington has made some big plays, though, and he made a name for himself in Sunday’s game against the Bengals, when he came through with a clutch highlight-reel play. The Steelers simply could not move the football on offense, trailing 7-3 in the third quarter, when Washington got open over the middle on a vertical route. Steelers quarterback Devlin Hodges hit him in stride, and Washington did the rest — stiff-arming Bengals cornerback B.W. Webb into the ground en route to a 79-yard touchdown.
That was also Hodges’ first pass attempt of the game, as he replaced Mason Rudolph, making the play even more impressive.
